What is RSPCA Assured?
We are the RSPCA’s farm animal welfare assurance scheme and the only farm assurance scheme in the UK dedicated solely to improving farm animal welfare.
Our experienced team of assessors check farm animals have been well cared for to welfare standards set by the RSPCA.
The RSPCA's Farm Animal Welfare Standards
We are the only scheme that uses higher welfare standards set by the RSPCA. The RSPCA’s welfare standards cover the whole of an animal’s life, from their health and diet to environment and care. This includes things like space, light, bedding, transport and humane slaughter.
RSPCA Assured Assessors
We inspect indoor as well as outdoor farms, including free-range and organic. The scheme also approves hauliers, abattoirs, processors and packers, and we have more than 3,500 members. RSPCA Assured assessors carry out annual assessments.
The RSPCA Assured Logo
When all aspects of an animal’s life have been covered by the RSPCA’s welfare standards by members of the RSPCA Assured scheme, food products can be labelled RSPCA Assured.
If you or your customer wants to sell a product as RSPCA Assured to another business you must be an RSPCA Assured member, regardless of whether the product is labelled or not.

Official, Uniform and Fair
- RSPCA Assured is recognised by the UK government as a higher-level scheme.
- We operate completely independently from the food and farming industry.
- RSPCA Assured is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the RSPCA but is a charity in its own right and operates independently.
- Certified by Supply Chain In-Sites Ltd (ISO 17065 accreditation in progress).
- This ensures that the scheme is official, uniform and fair.
RSPCA Assured Labelled Products
- There are about 2,000 different RSPCA Assured labelled products available across nearly all the UK’s supermarkets.
- Sainsbury’s sells about 46% of all RSPCA Assured labelled products sold in the UK.
